Nate's Letter Home - July 8, 2019

el frío - 8 julio 2019

Well it´s already monday again.

This week was actually pretty cold. My comp was basically dying the whole week. He is not used to the cold. I don´t know if I´ve even mentioned my new comp yet. He´s Elder Tovar and he´s from Lima, Peru. The cold doesn´t bother me that much, just my hands, which are basically frozen all the time. Literally everytime I shake hands with somebody they freak out like they had just touched dry ice or something. The people here don´t handle the cold to well. They usually just hunker down in their houses all day. It´s kinda hard to contact because nobody wants to come outside. We clap a ton of houses but not very many answer. We´re teaching this lady from Peru, who went to church a couple times there in Peru. She is progressing pretty well and if she comes to church this sunday she will be baptized the next saturday. We also have several people right now that are coming to church, and literally all they need to do to get baptized is to get married. Sometimes it seems like it´s impossible to get married here, but then I remember that there are people that are married, so it must be possible somehow.

I forgot to mention that last week a member gave me a pair of shoes that he didn`t use anymore, so my other 2 pairs have officially gone into retirement. Which is probably a good thing because they were being held together by a prayer and a few threads.

The ward here is kinda struggling. The average attendance is like 50 or 60. We´ve been talking a lot with the bishop and we are going to be visiting a lot of inactive families, and most of them are part-member families, which means that not all of their family is baptized, so we will probably find a lot of baptisms in the process.

Yeah I was gonna call on the 4th but things got kinda complicated. I don´t want to sound like the boy who cried wolf but I will most likely call this thursday.

Have a great week,

-Elder Shelton
